There is now a new laser machine in the department and the tutors sure are being careful with this one now!
Instead of doing the engraving on to my porcelain tiles, which has the potential to break the machine’s lens due to high volume of dust, I have resorted to other materials to use as a ‘stamp’. The plastic worked to an extent but I couldn’t go over the image twice because for some reason the image I chose was corrupted. However for the wood I chose a different picture and the results were good. The image is pixelated which mean the laser engrave isn’t smooth, it’s more grainy. I think I will need to put oil or something onto the wood stamp to limit the amount of clay getting caught in nooks and crannies.

If I have time, I want to try this out on as many different materials as I can in order to see which one works best as a ‘stamp’. These are what I have done so far:
